Required Resolution and Size for Printing Purposes Resolution and size (dimensions) are inversely proportional to each other. So, if you enlarge an image, you lower its resolution. If you reduce an image, you increase its resolution. For example, an image 2 inches x 2 inches in size at 300dpi increased in the layout to 4 inches x 4 inches has a new resolution of 150dpi.
